Payment

*Fees will vary depending on the type of service provided and the length of the session requested and range from $190-$300 per session. Session length can vary from 45 to 60 minutes, and length of session is best determined collaboratively following the initial evaluation. Fees increase $5 every January 1st. Cash, check, or payment via credit card on the Simple Practice patient portal are accepted for payment at the beginning of each session. Please note: no-shows/ cancellations without at least 48 hour notice will be charged full fee (and are not covered by insurance providers).

*I offer sliding-scale reduced fees on a limited basis.

*I also offer discounted treatment for BLM activists (please see: http://www.healingforactivists.com ).

Insurance

I accept the following types of insurance:

  • MediCare (please note, I do not accept MediCal)

*While I am currently not an in-network provider for any other health insurance plans, if you have out-of-network insurance benefits then you may be eligible for reimbursement for outpatient mental health care.  I provide patients with a statement that includes all of the information needed to obtain reimbursement directly from their insurance company.  You will need to check with your insurer to determine if your policy includes out-of-network benefits.  Questions to keep in mind when speaking with your insurance company include:

  • Do I have out-of-network benefits for outpatient mental health treatment?

  • Do I need prior authorization in order to receive reimbursement?

  • How much does my plan cover for out-of-network mental health treatment?

  • What deductible, out-of-pocket, or co-insurance fees will I be responsible for?

  • How many sessions per calendar year does my insurance plan cover?

  • How do I obtain reimbursement?  What information must be included on my claims?

Cancellation Policy

I have a 48-hour cancellation policy because scheduling an appointment with me reserves that time specifically for you.  Please inform me as soon as possible if you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment.  If you miss an appointment or cancel with less than 48 hours notice, you will be billed for the full amount of your session. Please note, insurance companies do not reimburse for missed appointments.

Availability

I am available by appointment only and I do not provide walk-in services.  Occasional phone calls of less than 15 minutes duration will not be charged.  Should the need arise for frequent phone check-ins of more than 15 minutes duration, you will be charged on a prorated hourly basis.

The frequency of sessions and number of sessions varies broadly depending on the individual and the problems with which they present.  Some patients need as few as 4-6 sessions while others would like to establish longer-term care.  After completing a course of treatment you may also schedule sessions monthly to ensure progress, as needed or desired.

Phone calls are generally returned within 24 hours.  If you do not receive a return call, please leave another voicemail, as there may have been a technological malfunction.  If you are having a medical or mental health emergency please call 911 or go to a nearby emergency room.

Email may be used for scheduling but it is not a secure form of communication and clinical or sensitive information should not be shared over email.  Computer or network problems may result in emails not being received, so if you do not receive a reply within 24 hours of sending your message, please resend the email or leave a voicemail message.

Good Faith Estimate Notice

As of January 1, 2022 The No Surprises Act requires providers to inform their uninsured and private pay patients that they have a right to a “Good Faith Estimate” to help them estimate the expected charges they may be billed.

  • You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your mental health care will cost.

  • Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services.

  • You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services.

  • You can ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service.

  • If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.

  • For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call (800) 985-3059.
